Seeing the Light of Day
5 years ago, Chris Day travelled to the west country to collect a car from a barn. What was winched out then, is unrecognisable today.
When we’ve collected a car, the time it takes to then drop it off to a customer can be be varied. It could be as short as a a hour. Or less. This one was slightly longer. But with a very good reason.
In the classic car industry, barn finds have always carried a lot of interest. Some have been dry stored. Others have trees growing out of them. This Bentley S1 from 1956 was a little somewhere in between.

The barn find itself relinquished three cars. Alongside this Bentley S1 is an Aston Martin DB3 as well as a Jaguar XJ120, both of which we’ll bring you further updates on when completely restored.
The Bentley underwent a tremendous amount of work over the next five years.
The credit for all the hard work must go to Phantom Motor Company in Surrey who not only brought the car back to its best, it went better than that.
It came third at the Bentley Drivers Club at Hampton Court looking resplendent on a summers day.
Finally, the owner has taken delivery of the car to his home in Hertfordshire and while the collection and delivery may have taken five years, it has been well worth the wait.
