Teamwork makes the dream work
22 February 2021

'We have one hour maximum' is what we're told, 'and there is no way you can start it.'
An auspicious start to a conversation but one we're used to.
'And your hour is between 5 and 6am' is the matter of fact end to the brief.
The job in question is getting a classic Bugatti Type 35 inside the RAC building for a week long display. The how was teamwork. The whole hour was going to be photographed and chronicled for Classic Driver. No pressure then!
Arriving 15 minutes early, the RAC crew were just beginning to remove the revolving door that you normally walk, not drive through. Metal ramps over the stone steps were deployed and lined up for the car coming out. An old Jaguar was able to be driven slowly and carefully through the door. We're up.
Due to the straight through exhaust on the Bugatti, there was no way we could fire her up. The neighbours would definitely complain! So, yours truly took the wheel while we rolled her out of the trailer, down the road and through a doorway and parked on the carpet. As you do!
In no time at all, we were on the Wilton and lining her up for some more photo's, drip tray placed to protect the carpet and we were done.
Ramps removed, door replaced, quick tidy up and we were out before most of London was up. Well within the hour.
Happy client, happy shoot and 'capable of manouvering cars into a building' added to the CV!
