Race against time
We love motorsport and we are proud to sponsor all forms from karting to BTCC. The latter recently had an early morning manouver to complete. This is what we do.
When it comes to transporting vehicles, there is a little bit more to it than hitching a trailer to a tow bar and driving from point to point. The operator needs to know the customer expectations, the time needed to be at the collection point and any additional information that will make the job run smoothly.
When you’re handling classic cars, racing cars or one off priceless cars, you need to know what you’re doing. When it comes to transporting to or from the Royal Automobile Club in central London, it takes a unique bit of teamwork far beyond just knowing how to tow a trailer. At this years Motorsport Awards ceremony, the central atrium inside the entrance area featured the 2021 challenger of the British Touring Car Championship from West Surrey Racing Team BMW.
If you ever happen to see the entrance to the RAC, you may not realise that this is also the entrance used to get those cars in and out. The wooden revolving door pedestrians use has to be removed and while some cars navigate the gap easily, this modern BMW is almost twice as wide as a Bugatti Type 35 that we’ve handled here before.
Being punctual is a professional trait instilled across the Mack Logistics Team and given that the cars are installed and removed in the early hours, it takes military precision to get the job completed without disruption to passing traffic and the neighbourhood.
Mustering at 4:30am, the co-ordination between the teams of WSR, RAC and ourselves commences. While the RAC team dismantled the doorway, the WSR and Mack team prepare to move the car and make steady the ramps out to the chill morning air. As quickly as we have arrived, the choreography of the activity is complete. The car is out and heading for the trailer.
Loaded, strapped and back under wraps, the BTCC racer enjoys its anonymous ride away from the capital and back to its motorsport base. We are proud of what we do and it is nice when our clients let us know how we’re doing.
